25.  Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid Free and Clear

This is a great line of cleaning products for a household with a baby because it’s safe from any irritants, toxins, and fragrances yet effective for the whole family. I keep this stocked up for cleaning bottles, pacifiers. toys and dishes. I also use their laundry soap and disinfectant wipes.


24.  Ecos All Purpose Cleaner Parsley Plus

Safe and effective cleaner I can spray on anything and don’t have to worry about chemicals. An added bonus is that it smells super fresh! I even like the earth-friendly parsley room spray it smells light and clean and not perfume-y.


23.  Mrs. Myers Clean Day Soy Candle in Geranium

This scent makes me really happy. I first smelled it burning in the powder room of a cute little brunch spot in Highland Park. It was a spring day and I knew I wanted my bathroom to smell like this. I also love the hand soap.

22.  Weleda Everon Lip Balm

It’s always fun to find a new lip balm, right? A friend told me that this was by far her favorite lip balm, so I had to try it. Of course, Vitacost had it and I love it too. It goes on weightless without build-up yet it’s super silky and hydrating. This is the perfect balm to use under lip liner and lipstick.

21.  Mineral Fusion Volumizing Mascara

This is my favorite clean mascara that actually gives a beautiful volume to my lashes without irritating my eyes. I also use the concealer for under my eyes. It’s super creamy and hides my tired shadows.


20.  Zuzu Liquid Liner

I love wearing liquid liner but most of them make my eyes water…not Zuzu’s! It gives a precise line without irritation and doesn’t smear. I also like how easy it washes off at the end of the day. I use the brown for everyday casual and the black for a classic cat eye.


19.  Dr. Tungs Smart Floss

Okay, I’m about to gush over a floss. Have you ever looked forward to flossing your teeth? Neither did I before I started using this. There is something about the texture of the strand that clings to each tooth as it glides in and cleans between impeccably. Super satisfying and a cleaner mouth to boot.


18.  Mother’s Special Blend

This is all the stretch mark prevention I used during pregnancy and I lucked out without any! I mixed this with my body lotion and it perfectly hydrated every inch of my body. It is the purest you can get which was super important to me and it actually works. I love how it says on the label “For that special time, before, during and after pregnancy,” basically, you can add it to your regimen anytime, pregnant or not for soft skin.

17.  California Baby Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash

I’ve been using this stuff since the beginning with my babe and his skin is so soft. I like the ingredients and that its simple to use on his body and hair (he was born with a good mop). It doesn’t hurt his eyes if a little gets in and has the softest most delicate scent which makes me want to eat my child.


16.  Babyganics Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizer

Hands down the best hand sanitizer! No strong chemicals or fragrances yet it kills 99.9% of germs on contact and its moisturizing formula is gentle enough for babies. I get the small travel size and then refill them with the larger eco-refill bottle.


15.  Amazing Grass Protein Superfood Chocolate Peanut Butter

I know this is super healthy and full of protein and greens but I actually just like the taste. I like to mix extra peanut butter and cacao with my banana berry and spinach smoothies. Yum. I like all their products.


14.  Simple Mills Pancake & Waffle Mix- Gluten-free

One of the best gluten-free pancake mixes I’ve found and I like to have this on-hand. I always will add a half of a banana per serving to the batter and it really makes these delish. It doesn’t say to on the instructions so don’t forget.


13.  Vitacost Root2 Hemp Protein

When you want a simple one ingredient protein to add to a smoothie that won’t change the flavor too much but is rich in plant nutrients, I go for this. The price is amazing too.


12.  Eden Foods Organic Popcorn Kernels

I’ve been making my own stovetop popcorn lately and it’s a game changer. I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner but it’s a super easy and delicious snack. Here’s how I make it:

Classic Coconut Oil Popcorn Recipe

  • Melt 3 tbs coconut oil in a pan over medium-medium high heat in a tall pot.
  • Once it’s melted add 3 popcorn kernels
  • Once all 3 of the kernels pop add 1/3 cup kernels
  • Remove from the pot from the burner (while leaving the burner on) for 30 seconds while swirling the pot to make sure all the kernels are evenly covered and reach the same temperature.
  • After 30 seconds, put the pot back on the burner and move the pot back and forth over burner periodically while the corn pops.
  • Once you hear a break in the pops, for a few seconds, remove from stove and pour into a big bowl.
  • Top with salt and nutritional yeast.


11. Kal Nutritional Yeast Flakes

If you are obsessed with nutritional yeast like I am, get the bigger tub and put it on everything. If you’ve never tried nutritional yeast, don’t let the weird name fool you, it’s umami flavor is addicting. Put it on everything you’d put parmesan cheese on and skip the dairy and gain all those B vitamins.

9.  Vitacost Semi-Sweet Mini Chocolate Chips

Vegan chocolate chips that taste delicious and can be used for a ton of recipes. I like to add these to cookies, loaves and melt down for toppings. They also have a dark organic chunk for those bigger chocolate piece needs.


8.  Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal Vitamin

I love that this is a totally raw and vegan prenatal made from whole foods that do the job of giving you all the vital nutrients for before, during and after pregnancy. It’s super easy to take capsules didn’t make me as nauseous as other ones I’ve tried. I also liked these for nursing.

Super fun and easy spray of organic vitamin B12 when you need an extra boost. 


6.  Pure Synergy Pure Radiance Vitamin C Powder

My favorite way to take vitamin C is from a whole food source powder. This one is full of wild-gathered camu camu from the Amazon with organic acerola and an array of antioxidant-rich organic berries and sprouts. I feel an energy boost immediately after taking this and always have this in my cabinet. It’s great to take during the winter months to prevent viruses or anytime you feel one coming on. It’s also great for the skin.


5.  Natural Vitality Natural Magnesium CALM

Most of us are magnesium deficient and I find this to be a relaxing way to ensure I’m getting enough. If my muscles are sore or I’m having a hard time unwinding at the end of the day I will take this before bed and it usually helps me sleep.


4.  Nourish Organic Face Cleanser and Lotion

I was looking for a really pure and organic daily cleanser and moisturizer during pregnancy and I found this to be one of the best I’ve tried. It has very simple and natural ingredients that didn’t irritate my skin. In fact, I don’t think my skin has looked has looked better than when I use this combo.

Day 23: Watercress

After looking in to the health benefits of watercress, I’m wondering why I haven’t been eating it all along, or why I had no idea just how healthy it is…it’s actually ranked as the number one most nutritious vegetable! It’s so healing, Hypocrites himself made sure it was readily available to treat his patients! Study after study show the healing affects of this powerful plant and it’s amazing ability in disease prevention and beauty.

Here are a few more health benefits:

  1. Watercress is packed with more than 15 essential vitamins and minerals. More vitamin C than oranges, more iron than spinach, more calcium than milk.
  2. Powerful for #thyroid function because of it’s iodine content. It’s also used to treat/prevent Alzheimer’s.

Day 20: Tomatoes

Add flavor to so many dishes with tomatoes!
There are so many varieties and ways to use tomatoes to spice up your cooking. If you don’t like tomatoes it may be because you haven’t found the right variety yet, there are so many different textures and flavors out there, keep trying.  Some of my favorites are heirloom tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. What about you?
It’s actually so simple and delicious to make your own tomato sauce. Just food process a few tomatoes, sauté them with some garlic, seasonings (red chili flakes, garlic powder, oregano, basil, cayenne) add spinach or veggies, add a can of organic chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce and a few tbl. spoons of tomato paste and that is all you need!
Paired on top of some gluten-free pasta and you are good to go! You can even add lentils to your sauce to create that bolognese flavor!

  • Tomatoes are full of anti-oxidants and are linked to heart health.
  • Tomato paste is an excellent source of iron! If you are a ketchup fan, make your own with tomato paste! It’s so much healthier and super easy too.

Day 18: Rice

Rice Cakes with Peanut Butter, Julienne Peeled Apple, Sprinkled with Cinnamon and Coconut!

 This makes the perfect after dinner snack if you’re having sweet tooth, it really satisfies your craving and is a good carb to have before bed because the apple will give you some fiber and the rice cake will give you some good carbs to help you get to sleep…

Arsenic and Rice:

There is a lot of controversy about rice right now because of high arsenic levels. Research shows that it is highest in brown rice, so I would avoid it altogether. White rice is a safer choice (organic doesn’t  change arsenic levels), it’s also easier to digest. It’s best when it’s grown in California or Asia (no where else in the U.S.). Also, rinsing it first helps. I would avoid giving it to children or very sparingly.
It’s too bad about rice, because it is an absolute staple for me and my gluten-free, hclf diet! I am still eating it (white, black or wild rice), but I am going to start eating it less often…What are your thoughts about rice?

Day 4: Dates

Dates are one of my top favorite foods, I really started to love them once I realized how nutritious they are and how many ways you can use them.
I recommend getting them from the Farmers Market because they are so fresh and tender…my favorites are from Bautista Family Organic Ranch.

Some reasons to be thankful for dates:

  1. Dates energize, revitalize and hydrate the body instantly.
  2. Then are full of vitamins and minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium and B-complex and are anti-inflamitory.
  3. They are rich in fiber, very easy to digest, promote digestive health and relieve constipation.
  4. They prevent stroke, lower blood pressure, boost heart health, brain health and increase sexual stamina!
  5. Dates also aid in a healthy pregnancy, delivery and are wonderful for kids.
Did you know dates did all that? That’s why you should eat them every day and at plenty, they are amazing in smoothies and make tasty Holiday treats too, like the ones above…here is the super simple, delicious recipe…

Just pit dates and food process them with some shredded coconut and a few sprinkles of cinnamon.
Roll them into balls and then roll them over some chia seeds and more shredded coconut.
You can put them in the freezer to harden and Enjoy!

Day 1: Apple Picking in Oak Glen, CA

Day 1 of #27DaysOfThanks: Apples

It’s apple season…

and I had the pleasure of spending Halloween Day apple picking in the small orchard town of Oak Glen, CA. I picked organic Granny Smith, Roma Beauty and Red Gold apples! It gives you such a different perspective when you pick the food you eat yourself…it gave me a sense of gratitude and appreciation and made me feel that we take our food for granted at times. I highly recommend this experience to everyone and it would be great for kids too.

We also stopped by a small organic fruit stand called Mom’s Orchard and tasted a bunch of jams, mustards and sauces. My favorites were the Spicy Peanutbutter and the Apple Jam!

Here are some reason to be thankful for apples:

1. They are high in Vitamin C and A which will boost your immunity this time of year.
2. They have fiber and eating one everyday for a snack will keep you feeling satisfied and regular.
3. They can reduce cholesterol and prevent disease by aiding in detoxification.

A great way to get an apple in is to add it to your juice or smoothie!
